Student Removals - Your Transport Options

Student Removals - Your Transport Options

03 September 2014

When you are moving in to your student accommodation, you will find that there are quite a few things to work out before you move, as otherwise you could end up getting pretty stuck! You will find that there are a great many options on the table for how you move your things, and finding the right mode of transport will be the most essential part of it all, in terms of making sure that you are getting the job done efficiently.

Car

Many people simply drive themselves up in their cars. If you do not have your own car, then the best option will be to either get your parents to drive you up, or to find a mate who is driving up to the same university as you. If neither of these options work for you, then you should have a think about how best you are going to find a car in which to get up there. There are plenty of websites on the internet that you can use to find people that are going to the same university as you, and this can be a help in finding people that are form the same area. Getting talking to people on those sites, or positing an ad for needing a lift will often mean that you can find people who want to split the petrol money in return for a lift. This will usually be a lot cheaper than getting the train! Car share sites will also be a good place to look, though you do need to let the person driving know that you have a load of bags and gear to put on the back seat!

Train

Some people go to their first terms of uni with little more than a bag of clothes and some books, and if that is you, then your relaxed lifestyle will afford you the ability to travel by train. If you book well in advance, even long journeys will be a lot cheaper on the whole, and you will find that there is a lot less to worry about, other that ensuring that you have decent transport options at each end of the journey.

Van

You will find that if you have a bit more than a few bags, or you are moving in to a house and have furniture and the like to transport, then it is pretty essential that you can find a van to get everything moved in. You can often find van rental companies who will have depots in major cities, where you can hire one form near you, and drop it off nearer to your destination. You will find that the self hire vans are not too expensive, but the fact of the matter is that you are taking on a fair old job in doing all that driving, especially if you are not used to driving a larger vehicle. Unfortunately, some companies won’t hire out vans to people under a certain age, and that means that you end up with a man and van service as your only option. The man and van is a great option for short moves, but for long distance ones, you will either have to work out a quote that works for you beforehand, or not risk it, as the hourly rate can be pretty high!

There are many ways in which you can get your belongings to university, you just need to make sure that the one you chose suits your needs.
